  1. Preliminary genga in the examples you use are rough drawings of the character/scene so it’s not surprising the features of a character might look odd. It’s not an issue. That’s why shuusei drawings are made afterwards, to give the douga artists a better feel for the scene. This is where everything looks right in the shuusei + douga examples; just right for the final product.

  2. Hey man, cheers for the info – I’m not sure if I just haven’t come across many prelim Akira gengas over the years in that case, everything just seems to be 100% top quality. So it’s a bit bizarre on the very odd occasion when I come across something that looks really off. By the way, I see BBAkira is still active, that certainly takes me back!
