While looking though some of my old Akira DVDs, I noticed that for the 2002 DVD release, the website http://www.akira2002.com was registered as part of the advertising campaign.
I decided to check out to see if the website was still there, but unfortunately it’s long gone. There is a copy of it on the Wayback Machine, but it seems to be flash based as I can’t get passed the intro page.
The last time the domain was used for it’s original Akira related purpose was back in 2004, so I thought it might be nice for posterity to register the domain again and have it linked to this website.
If you do somehow happen to end up here because you thought you’d try searching for a domain you found on the back of a 22 year old Akira DVD, do let me know!
Edit – well this gave me a chuckle, 5 months later after putting this post up and registering http://www.akira2002.com I had my first hit from someone seeing the URL on the back of the 2002 Akira DVD case. Thanks Josh for reaching out! Nice to know folks are still watching that copy of Akira.

I just picked up a second hand copy of 2002 re-release and saw this website on the back! It’s nice to know someone is keeping the domain!

April 2025, checked my 3 versions of Akira and yes one of them has the quiz and mentions the 2002 site so I guess your not as alone as you might think lol.
The big question is what was the hidden area of the site? You needed to answer all the quiz bits right to end up with a code that you had to enter. And those questions were hard, don’t think I got any right.
Rumour says Ghost in the Shell gets a 3rd entry for 2026, would be nice for Akira to get a sequel or some extra story.
That and a new Street Fighter anime film would be nice.
